This modular Tigchelkachel stove was built in Dunino by St. Andrews in Scotland. The Tigchel heater is a "stackable" version of the Finish contraflow masonry heaters, roduced as a modular stacking system. From a construction viewpoint, this is a very easy masonry stove to build and is ideal for DIY as it comes as a complete kit including all the iron ware and insulation. There is no bonding material, the tongue and groove parts just fit into each other, sealed with a heat proof tape. This allows for easy and clean build, the only thing that's missing is the chimney or flue. In the Far North, where high insulation standards are common, this typel of woodburners is often the preferred choice as it offers excellent combustion efficiency, fast heat transfer and good thermal mass capacity.
